Our Seasons, Hearts and Heads

and winter will leave
takes ice from bones
leaves bloodless skin

and spring will come
plants seeds of
hope and light

and summer will come
and dreams will bloom
and heads and hearts
sweat and forget
the chill that once
slipped through
the cracks

and when autumn comes
we will fight
to keep
the warm inside
when the cold creeps up
to nibble will

the seasons of our life
they come and go
never relent
cold in, cold out
and life rebounds

hearts and heads
they boil and freeze
cracked and drafty
heat in, heat out
until our final day
